Software coverage
for people who
actually swing hammers.

Contractor Software Hub is an independent publication that covers software used by contractors — the kind of tools a 3-person HVAC shop or a 20-crew roofing operation is deciding whether to buy at 9pm on a Thursday.

Most "best software for contractors" articles you'll find online are rewritten vendor copy, stitched together by people who've never used the products and never talked to anyone who has. They rank the tools the site gets the biggest affiliate payout from. The reader comes out with a list that reads like a press release and still doesn't know what to buy.

We do it differently. Every piece on this site is built on three inputs:

  1. Pricing pulled from vendor pages on the date of publication — never estimated, never inherited from a past article.
  2. Aggregated contractor feedback from G2, Capterra, and the relevant subreddits (r/HVAC, r/Plumbing, r/Contractors, r/Landscaping). One complaint is an anecdote. A pattern gets named.
  3. A named wrong-buyer. Every product has a contractor it's the wrong tool for. If we can't identify them, the research isn't done.

Who runs it

Chris Harper is the editor. He's been writing about software for the trades for more than a decade and has spent enough time on jobsites to know the difference between a demo and a tool you actually reach for on a bad Tuesday.

How we make money

Some of the tools we cover have affiliate programs. If you sign up through one of our links, we earn a commission at no cost to you. Our coverage doesn't change because of that — if it did, the site wouldn't be worth reading.

We also cover plenty of tools that don't have affiliate programs, and recommend "don't buy this yet, use a better spreadsheet" when that's the honest answer. Read our full disclosure policy.

What we cover

  • Individual vendor reviews — Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, and growing.
  • Head-to-head comparisons — when you're deciding between two specific tools.
  • Best-of roundups — shortlists by trade (HVAC, plumbing, roofing, landscaping, pest control, painting) and by category (CRM, scheduling, estimating, CAD, accounting).

What we don't do

  • We don't publish sponsored reviews.
  • We don't rank tools by affiliate payout.
  • We don't copy vendor marketing pages.
  • We don't recommend software you don't need yet.
